Mr. Fallon sailed as engine Cadet on the SS John Owen. This trip was through the Panama Canal down the west coast of South America then to Port Elizabeth then back north to Trinidad and Baltimore. He sailed on the SS Thomas Clingman as 3rd Asst. and on the T-2 tanker SS Drewy’s Bluff as 1st Asst. After loading a cargo of crude oil the Drewy’s Bluff left the port of Texas City, Texas and the next day the port was disintegrated when a ship loaded with ammonium nitrate fertilizer caught on fire, exploded and disintegrated.
